ABOUT CHUBBIES TINY HOUSES

Chubbies Tiny houses is a family owned and operated company, registered in 2023, born out of the wish to fill a need.

Chairman/director.

M. A. "Chubby" de Freitas has been in business in  Barbados 🇧🇧, since 1964. His first business was Chubbies Rentals, scooters and cars. Next came Chubbies Video. Followed by TecCorner, Blackberry specialists. All while heading up de Freitas & Company Ltd., hardware merchants.

Tricia de Freitas has been admin assistant to Chubby, since 2000. 
After TecCorner, she spent several years as Admin Manager for Powder Coating Inc. and Seamless Gutters Inc.

Tricia is an accomplished Artist and started her own company Dreamers Rock Creations in 2020. As a Mixed Media  & Furniture artist, the need for a Gallery & workspace arose. Between cost of building, or expensive second hand containers (if you could get one) that then needed vast customization ......well...why not customize our own.

Chubbies Tiny Houses was born.

Tricia's years of admin experience serves Chubbies Tiny Houses, admirably.

F. Shane de Freitas, Oly. BA. Shane is an Olympian, competing in gymnastics for Barbados, at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He also holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from The University of Iowa.. Shane was a Blackberry specialist and the COO of TecCorner. 

Shane is currently living and working as a gymnastics coach in Christiansburg Virginia. He remotely coaches high level Crossfit athletes in gymnastics, and coaches PowerMonkey camps in Nashville Tennessee.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. I know it's tiny homes, but can two be purchased to create a larger living space?

 

A. Multiple units can be purchased and combined, to create a larger living space. Configuration is limited only by your imagination.

 

Q. Would I need town planning approval to construct on my land?

 

A. Planning permission, short answer is you need to check with the competent authority, yes Town Planning.

 

Technically one unit can be considered a movable chattel, and as such planning permission _should_ not be needed.

Multiple combined units most likely will 

need planning permission.

 

Q. Are you aware of any restrictive covenants preventing use of this product? My restrictive covenant has no wood.

 

A. Certainly the only restrictive covenants that should concern you are the ones that appear on your title deed.

 

However we have seen for example:

 

must be built primarily of masonry. To satisfy that we advise the use of concrete board walls. 

 

must be designed by an architect licensed to practice in Barbados. You can can get your chosen configuration, designed by a local practitioner.

 

With regards your restrictive covenant, our normal build does not contain any wood.

 

That being said one would be hard pressed to find any house in Barbados with NO wood. Consider roof structure, cabinetry, stairs. 

 

Q. How is the structure installed in sections, or already built? 

 

A. Single units are built on our property, transported to buyer's property.

 

Two to three units, will be transported to buyer’s property as raw materials, built and combined on your property, by our team.

 

Q. Do you build the foundation, or does the buyer need to have a foundation preparedbefore delivery or construction?

 

A. Foundation needs to be prepared before delivery or construction. We will be happy to advise on foundation.

Q. If I wanted two stories, is it possible?

 

A. Two stories are very doable.

 

Q. What is the average cost for  1000 to 1200 Sq ft of living space.

 

A. Basic unit 200 sq ft with no doors or windows is $17,185. See our Price Guide in "Our Pricing” page for more information, and suggested layouts.
